Winter in Wisconsin

February, it’s the longest, shortest month of the year.  While February only has 28 days, Winter still has a grip on us, and Spring is still several weeks away.

If you haven’t already, February is a great time to embrace Winter in Wisconsin!  Here are some things to do to beat the winter blues away:

FROZEN ASSETS: Check out the Clean Lakes Alliance Frozen Assets February 5 & 6th at the Edgewater and Lake Mendota.  It’s free and family friendly!

SKATE:  Lace up your ice skates and take a spin around the rink.  Thanks to the Madison lakes, the city has some picturesque spots to skate including Vilas Park, Westmorland Park and Elver Park are all great options.

CROSS COUNTY SKI: You barely have to leave your back yard to find a spot to cross-country ski in Madison.  Elver Park has groomed trails and so does Odana Golf Course.  Both parks require a trail pass, so be sure you have that before you venture out.  No skis?  No problem, several Madison parks rent skis.

SLED: Madison’s hills provide wonderful sledding.  Check out Elver Park, Garner Park and Arbor Hills Park for a thrill down the hill!

DOME DINING:  The Madison restaurant scene has adapted to the pandemic in many ways, one of which is providing outdoor dining options.  Hollander Café at Hilldale and ZuZu café near Henry Vilas Zoo are two options.

KITCHEN TIME:  If you are the indoor type, baking cookies or trying a new recipe to share with friends and family is a great idea.

Try one or all these ideas to help get you through to spring.  It won’t be long!  Oh, and be sure to let me know which options you try!
