January Homeowners Checklist!

Happy New Year Friends!! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday!!

As we head into the new year, here are a few ideas to keep your house cozy and tight as we enter the bitter cold days of January:

  • Pack up the holiday decorations and recycle boxes and wrapping paper. Be sure the cull all those decorations you no longer use!
  • Keep your water clean by changing out the water filters and icemaker filters. Don’t forget to hydrate even in the winter!
  • Check your gutters for ice dams. They can be a real burden on roofs and can cause leaks!
  • Change your furnace filter. Our furnaces are working overtime this time of year, so be sure your filter is clean!
  • Protect your pipes from freezing. If you have plumbing on an outside wall, consider opening the cabinet doors in kitchens and bathrooms at night to allow warmer air to circulate the pipes.
  • January is a great time to clean and organize your closets. Keep what you want and donate the rest.
  • Consider adding indoor lighting. Although the days are slowly getting longer, we have a long way to go. Adding light can keep your mood elevated and create cozy spaces inside.
  • If you haven’t already, put together a car emergency kit. Include a flashlight, extra batteries, bottled water, snacks and extra gloves and mittens.
  • Change the stove vent filter. With the heavy cooking season behind us, now is a great time to start fresh in the kitchen!

Let me know if this was helpful!! All the best to you in 2022!!
